Why did you decide to participate in the RAW photo shoot?
To support, highlight & bring awareness to a cause that I think is very powerful. I wanted to be a part of the movement – in hopes that others will join the RAW conversation. I also adore the founder!
What surprised you most about the experience?
The constant “checking” of what I looked like without makeup the day of the shoot… feeling a bit self-conscious
What is your definition of ‘beautiful’?
To be comfortable and confident within your own skin. When someone embodies those qualities – their inner beauty radiates outwards.
Have you ever felt like you weren’t beautiful? If yes, when does this feeling usually come up?
When I am in living in moments of fear, self-doubt or uncertainty. Those negative feelings can sometimes translate into how I perceive myself.
What things (if any) are you most insecure about?
Pre-mature aging!! The wrinkles under my eyes or my laugh lines. I’m learning to love them though. OH! And my bunion feet. I avoided wearing open-toe sandals for the first 4 dates with my boyfriend.
When do you feel most beautiful?
On vacation. Sun, surf, freckles, beach hair, no make-up. I also think freedom of schedule contributes to a more relaxed state of mind & overall anxiety shift for me.
Has your appearance ever held you back in life or conversely helped you?
I struggled with body image as a teenager which definitely held me back from positive experiences, opportunities & a happier high school experience. I think young girls (13-18) need a lot of additional support, information & positive messaging during that discoverable time.
What part of aging scares you the most?
I don’t know what my aged self will look like!! Fear of the unknown is a continuous struggle for me. Once again, working on it!
I am most excited about becoming a mother & having that experience with my body. I am really, really looking forward to it. Oh! And the older I get, the shorter I want to cut my hair, which is also exciting. (Buh-bye long-hair security blanket!!)
On average how much do you spend each month on cosmetic items such as make-up, hair cuts/ colouring, waxing, clothing, nails, tanning, creams etc.
Probably 100-200$? I am a deal hunter!
Have you ever had cosmetic surgery or treatments?
I have had a breast augmentation. No regrets!
Who is the most beautiful woman in the world to you and why?
My mother, absolutely. She is so comfortable with who she is – and I love that about her. She knows her body, what it needs, and listens to it.
If you woke up every morning feeling confident, content and proud of your natural appearance (before putting on make-up, doing your hair, getting dressed etc.) how would your world be different? What would that feel like? Would your day unfold differently?
Some miraculous things have happened since the RAW shoot. Truthfully. I am wearing less makeup, and letting my hair dry naturally if I don’t have a meeting and/or event (I call it “Coast hair” – wavy & wild!) I am really starting to love & embrace my natural state. I also kind of feel daring doing it! Like… “Here I am world. Take it or leave it.”
